Meaningful Community Engagement

  • Beach Cities Transit, Transit Services Study

Beach Cities Transit (BCT) is studying existing and future transit connections between Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, and LAX. JCL is gathering community input to inform recommendations for bus service enhancements (2022 ~ 2023). The outreach activities have been guided by a public participation plan that includes a public survey, focus group discussions, pop-up events, and 1-on-1 meetings with key community groups.

  • Caltrans, Cal Integrated Travel Project

Cal-ITP is making public transit more reliable and accessible for all riders in California. With Caltrans at the helm, the pilot program is the first state-funded effort of its kind to focus on standardizing GTSF protocols, fare payments, and digital eligibility verifications for all transit agencies. JCL led the Southern California engagement, inviting participating in virtual events and Minimal Viable Product (MVP) demonstrations. We drafted communications plans, facilitated peer working group discussions, and led focus groups with agencies and stakeholder groups across the state to gather input and feedback.

    LA Metro, K-Line Opening

Metro’s K Line has increased mobility options to LAX and boosted access to jobs, schools, and cultural centers for residents in the South LA communities of West Adams, Jefferson Park, Baldwin Hills, Leimert Park, Hyde Park, Inglewood, and Westchester. In 2022, JCL served as a Community Liaison subconsultant to Metro Public Relations for a series of seven (7) VIP community events that led up to a highly anticipated Opening Day Community Fest and Opening Weekend. JCL provided high-level event planning support and engaged with businesses, community groups, and faith-based organizations in Crenshaw and Inglewood with invitations to participate. In this capacity, JCL helped to procure local artists, caterers, and vendors to support the ceremonies. We worked day-to-day with Metro Special Events, Metro Art, Construction Relations, Marketing, Media Relations, and Volunteers.
